Carolina Parents Association

Good communication with parents and families has been a vital component in providing the highest quality student experience at Carolina. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill established the Carolina Parents Association in 1985 to serve as a communication link between family members of undergraduate students and the University.

The Association offers automatic, free membership to all parents and family members with undergraduate students at UNC Chapel Hill. It is connected to Student Affairs and served by New Student & Family Programs, the on-campus office for parent and family services. Members of the Association receive a variety of programs, and services at no additional cost. These programs and services are made possible by generous parents and families who donate to the Carolina Parents Fund. Parents and family members of the Carolina Parents Council (the Association’s leadership arm) work to improve communication and outreach efforts between the University and the Carolina Parents Association. The Council represents family members of all Carolina undergraduate students.

The Mission of the Carolina Parents Association is:

  • To create, implement, and sponsor programs, publications and services that meet the continuing needs of Carolina families.
  • To promote and support parent and family involvement by encouraging participation in their student’s Carolina experience.
  • To promote and support the development requirements of the University and its students through the Carolina Parents Fund.

The Annual Meeting

The Association’s annual meeting, held during Carolina Family Weekend each year, is hosted by the Carolina Parents Council and sponsored by New Student & Family Programs and Student Affairs. Association members indicate that this is the perfect time to learn about the latest campus updates, attend special programs with University administrators and staff, and win one semester of free in-state tuition while having an exciting and fun time just sharing the Carolina experience with their student.

Carolina Family Weekend

Family members can learn more about their student’s experience firsthand during Carolina Family Weekend, an annual event each fall. Attending Carolina Family Weekend is an easy and enjoyable way to stay informed about campus life and opportunities for your student. Carolina Family Weekend provides an opportunity to spend quality family time together, explore campus, experience the many talents of Carolina’s students, and learn about the daily routine of your student. In addition, campus administrators, faculty, and staff enjoy this opportunity to welcome our Carolina families to campus.Visit Family Weekend for more information.
