Orientation Parking & Early Arrival/Late Departure Information

New Student & Family Orientation parking is located in the S11 Manning Parking Lot with the entrance on the corner of Manning Drive and Skipper Bowles Drive.

Bring with you the Orientation Parking Permit that was attached to the confirmation email sent to you two weeks prior to your New Student & Family Orientation session and place it on the dashboard of your vehicle.

You can arrive as early as 8:00 a.m., with shuttle service running until 11:00 a.m. You are encouraged to make appropriate travel arrangements to arrive on-campus no later than 9:30 a.m., in order to successfully complete all morning activities including Housing Check-In, Orientation Check-In, UNC One Card pick-up, CCI laptop pick-up, if needed. Additionally, there will be a morning, punch-card activity that will help you explore UNC Student Stores.

Orientation Shuttle Drop-Off & Disability Parking

As a reminder, all incoming first-year students must stay in Cobb Residence Hall during New Student Orientation. The first step of check-in for First-Year New Student Orientation begins at 8:30 a.m. in Cobb Residence Hall so it is important to bring all overnight belongings with you when you board the Orientation Shuttle. Orientation Shuttles continuously run approximately every 15 minutes from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

From Cobb Residence Hall, Orientation Leaders will guide you towards the FPG Student Union for the second step of Orientation Check-In.

Please see the map below for recommended Visitor Disability Parking. If utilizing Visitor Disability Parking, family members who are not staying in overnight guest housing may report directly to the FPG Student Union while the student checks in for housing at Cobb Residence Hall.

Orientation Early Arrival and Late Departure

During June and July Orientation Sessions, on-campus housing accommodations can by requested if you need to arrive one day prior to New Student Orientation or depart one day after the program. Please be aware there is an additional fee to arrive early or depart late. All requests should be made when you make your online New Student & Family Orientation reservation.

Early Arrival Parking is available in the S11 Manning Parking Lot, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Parking in the S11 Manning Lot outside of those hours without the appropriate Orientation parking permit may result in a parking ticket or towing violation. Please bring with you the Orientation Parking Permit that was attached to the confirmation email sent to you two weeks prior to your orientation session and place it on your dashboard.

For early arrival check-in, report directly to Cobb Residence Hall between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

  • If you arrive Monday - Friday, before 8:00 p.m., you may take the RU Route, Chapel Hill Transit by loading at the bus stop in the S11 Manning Parking Lot.
  • If you arrive after 8:00 p.m., you may take the P2P Express. Please click here for a map of the route and note the yellow markers detailing where to get on and off the P2P Express.

The next morning, you will proceed directly to Orientation Check-In (8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) located in the FPG Student Union. Late departure check-out time is noon the day after your New Student & Family Orientation session.

August Orientation Session

Please note that first-year students participating in the August 15-16 Orientation session will move directly into their on-campus housing assignment. Orientation housing accommodations are not provided during the August session. Students attending the August session will be able to move into their housing assignments on Tuesday, August 14, 2018.
