Prepare for Your Orientation Session
  1. Complete your Foreign Language Placement Exam. If you have not completed your foreign language requirement through your previous coursework or Advanced Placement (AP), SAT II Subject Tests, or International Baccalaureate (IB) credit, you must take the department placement test in the foreign language you studied at your previous college or university.
    • All French, German, Latin, and Spanish placement exams are administered online by clicking here.
      • You may complete the Foreign Language Placement Exam as soon as you set-up your ONYEN.
    • If you need to take a placement exam other than French, German, Latin, or Spanish, please contact the appropriate Foreign Language Department.
  2. Complete the Academic Advising Module and Register for Fall 2019 Courses
    • To access the Academic Advising Module, please visit advising.unc.edu/faqs/student-resources and scroll down to see information for Newly Admitted Transfer Students. The link to the module can be found under I have accepted my admission to Carolina.  What are good first steps?.  You can also find the module by visiting go.unc.edu/TransferSakai. Once you have completed the module, you can find information on how to register for classes by visiting registrar.unc.edu/guide.
    • After you have registered for classes, you may schedule an appointment with an academic advisor to discuss your academic plan by visiting advsched.oasis.unc.edu/advsched/app. If you have been admitted directly to a Professional School, please contact that school to schedule an appointment with one of their advisors.
  3. Review Orientation Arrival and Parking Information. All sessions are on a first-come, first-served basis. No exceptions can be made to arrive late or leave early. You will receive two emails, one two-weeks and another two-days, prior to your New Student Orientation that will contain a link and attached parking pass for S11-Manning Lot. Please review the Parking Information for New Student Orientation by visiting tinyurl.com/TROparking. For up-to-date information about campus parking information including disability parking, please visit maps.unc.edu.
  4. Pack the appropriate materials for New Student Orientation. In addition to the materials below, please commit to memory your PID number, ONYEN, and ONYEN password.
  5.  Download our Guidebook Mobile App
    • Details regarding your New Student Orientation session can be found in our mobile guide; which we recommend you download to follow the program. It will include the New Student Orientation Schedule, information on parking and dining for orientation, as well as information on student life and university resources.
    • To access the Welcome New Students and Families 2019 app, please follow these instructions
      • Access the app through your web browser by visiting guidebook.com/g/uncnsfp2019.
      • Alternatively you can open the application store on your mobile device.
        • On Apple iOS, it may be the App Store.
        • On Android devices, it may be Google Play.
        • Search “UNC Guides” and download app by Guidebook, Inc.
        • Open the app and, in the search box near the top, search “Welcome New Students and Families 2019”
        • Click “Download Guide” and then “Open”
