Welcome to Carolina!

Dear Carolina Families,

Andrew and Sara May, ata football game last year, are the Parents Council National Chairs for 2017-2018.As this year’s National Chairs of the Carolina Parents Council, we would like to welcome you to Carolina. Chapel Hill is an extraordinary place. We are lucky enough to have two daughters enrolled at this great university: Vanessa is in the Class of 2018 and is looking forward to all that senior year has to offer as she completes her studies and heads out into the working world.  Carolyn joins the extraordinary Class of 2021 and is excited to embark on the profound experience a Carolina education promises her. We love the fact that UNC-Chapel Hill gives all of our students top-notch, nationally recognized, and high- quality academic, cultural, social, and athletic experiences in an environment where faculty and staff are truly dedicated to student achievement, enrichment, and success.

All family members of any undergraduate student are automatically members of the Carolina Parents Association. The Parents Council is the volunteer leadership component of the Carolina Parents Association. The Parents Council works closely with New Student & Family Programs to host Summer Send-Offs in our communities and volunteer at New Student & Family Orientation and Carolina Family Weekend. The Parents Council also provides a parent perspective on a broad spectrum of campus issues involving academics and student life as many of our parent members are afforded opportunities to interact and dialogue with faculty and students regarding current matters impacting the Carolina community. These matters include student safety and wellness, student life, and undergraduate academics.

The Parents Council also awards yearly grants to student organizations and UNC offices and departments. Over the years, our grants have helped provide funds for programs like FallFest, First-Year Fridays, The Helping Hand Project, as well as student research and publications. Since 1985, the Parents Council has given over 1.8 million dollars to fund such initiatives at Carolina. We encourage you to find ways to get involved, and we invite you to join the Parents Council.

Supporting students in the Carolina community is our main goal. When we work together, we continue to make UNC-Chapel Hill the incredible place that it is. Please let us know if we can do anything to assist you. If you would like more information about the Carolina Parents Council, including how to join, please visit families.unc.edu.

Go Heels!
