Recommended Packing List for Transfer Orientation

In addition to packing items below, students should commit to memory their PID number, ONYEN, and ONYEN password.  

Items for Transfer Student Orientation  

  • Driver’s license, military ID, or passport 
  • Print or bookmark your Orientation Parking Permit 
  • Laptop or tablet/iPad (if not picking up a CCI laptop)  
  • Backpack (to hold your CCI or personal laptop/tablet)  
  • Bring your Health Insurance cards to assist in waiving or enrolling in student health insurance.  You can review the Mandatory Health insurance requirement by visiting the Campus Health website
  • Comfortable clothing and walking shoes  
  • Jacket or sweater (you will be spending time inside air-conditioned buildings) 
  • Umbrella (in case of rain)  
  • Water bottle  

Items for Academic Advising 

  • If you did not order a Carolina Computing Initiative (CCI) laptop from UNC, you will need to bring your own laptop/tablet with you to New Student Orientation and follow the instructions below to configure your laptop for UNC’s wireless networks 
    • Follow the step-by-step instructions by visiting help.unc.edu/help/connecting-to-the-unc-wireless-network
    • Click on the appropriate tabs for your operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux), and follow instructions to set up Eduroam and UNC-PSK
    • If there are any issues configuring your laptop please call 919-962-4357

Incoming First Year Students should register by May 15.

Incoming, new Transfer Students should register by May 29.
