Housing During Orientation
Where will I stay during my Orientation session?
Students attending June and July sessions will stay in the Hinton James Residence Hall. Linens are NOT provided in the residence hall. Rooms are double occupancy rooms; each room is air-conditioned and has two twin beds. Participants should bring their own pillow, blanket/bed linens, and towels. Hinton James Residence Hall consists of suite-style bathroom facilities, shared by the 8 students in each suite, across 4 double bedrooms.
Students attending August sessions should plan to reside in their planned fall semester housing. This may include them needing to make specific arrangements with Carolina Housing or with whatever Housing provider is responsible for move in dates/times. No housing is provided through Orientation for August sessions.
Can I stay in the same room as my student?
All first-year students are required to live in on-campus housing or in Granville Towers during their first year at UNC. Therefore, all first-year students coming to June or July sessions have the opportunity to experience on-campus living during their Orientation. As such, ONLY students will stay in the residence hall for the session. For family members and/or guests attending orientation please visit this resource site to find accommodations at one of our local Chapel Hill hotels.
Can I request my roommate at Orientation?
(June & July Sessions only) Roommates will be assigned prior to checking-in on site. You are not able to request a specific roommate for your Orientation session.
My guest (or student) requires accessibility resources/services. How can I request those?
If a student or guest requires accessibility services such as a sign language interpreter, dietary needs, or additional resources please be sure to indicate the needs in the appropriate fields during the Orientation reservation process. These needs must be communicated through the reservation process prior to the May 15 deadline to allow for adequate time for our staff to make arrangements to meet student/guest needs. Students can also seek further assistance from the office of Accessibility Resources & Services.
I'm a Carolina Covenant family member/guest. Where can I find more information on my Orientation accommodations?
Carolina Covenant Families/guests who indicated during the registration process that they will need housing during orientation will receive a hotel reservation email directly from the hotel (AC Hotel) ahead of your session date with information on your overnight accommodations. If you have hotel-specific questions please contact the AC Hotel at (919) 969-2800.
